Method Statement

SURFACE PREPARATION AND APPLICATION

  • The surface must be free from dust, oil, grease, loose particles, etc.
  • Moisten the surface before applying Dr. Fixit Crack-X Shrinkfree. Fine hairline cracks must be widened up to a minimum of 1 mm and then be filled.
  • For filling, Dr. Fixit Crack-X Shrinkfree on the internal surfaces, remove the existing POP or painter’s putty till the plaster surface is exposed.
  • Press Dr. Fixit Crack-X Shrinkfree firmly into the crack only one time, with a spatula or putty knife and level the surface. If convenient, use handball application.
  • Take care to avoid formation of cavities or bubbles during application.
  • Allow it to dry in ambient conditions for 5 to 6 hours before painting for best results. A 7-day air curing is advised.
  • Further, apply POP or painters’ putty once it is fully dry.

CLEANING

  • Clean tools and equipments by soap and water.
  • Wash hands with soap and warm water.

Dr. Fixit Crack-X Shrinkfree

Q. Where should Dr. Fixit Crack X Shrinkfree be used? A. Dr. Fixit Crack X Shrinkfree is a one time crack filler to fill static cracks of upto 10 mm sizes in external and internal plastered surface of buildings.

Q. What are the surface preparation requirements of the system? A • Remove old caulk from joints. The edges of the joints should be neat and sound.     • Make sure that surface is clean & free from puddle of water.     • The surface should be free of loose debris.     • Contaminations of oil, grease or bitumen should be completely cleaned.

Q. Can this be used to fill cracks between RCC & Masonry joints?

A. No. it is only meant for cracks in plastered surface. For filling the separation cracks between RCC & Masonry joints it should be filled using PMM made using Dr. Fixit Pidicrete URP or Dr. Fixit Pidicrete MPB.

Q. How is the product performance in comparison to a conventional cement putty/crack-filler? A. Conventional cement based crack-fillers have a tendency to shrink on hardening. Moreover, a cementitious crack-filler is brittle in nature, having no flexibility which ultimately results in cracks reappearing on the treated area. On the contrary, Dr. Fixit Crack X Shrink Free is a mixture of acrylic polymers & graded fillers which makes the product non-shrink & at the same time imparts reasonable flexibility once cured. It thus performs exceptionally well as a crack-filler.

Q. When do we not suggest the product? A • Dr. Fixit Crack X Shrinkfree is for static joint filling only upto 10mm width.    • It does not accommodate any movements and thus it is not suitable for dynamic cracks.    • Not for application in cracks in structural members, expansion joints & separation gaps.    • Not for cracks in POP or painter’s putty.    • For application below 10 ?C, drying time will be delayed.

Q. After filling the cracks using Dr. Fixit Crack X Shrinkfree when can the subsequent painting be done? A.  After filling the cracks with Dr. Fixit Crack X Shrinkfree subsequent painting can be done after 6 hours.

Q. What is the coverage of the product? A. 30 to 35 RM per lit for a 5 mm x 5 mm crack.

Q. Can it be applied in all temperatures? A. Application temperature ranges from 5-40?C

Q. What is the pre-application & during application care to be taken? A  • Ensure complete surface preparation as instructed     • Strictly adhere to the application guidelines to get the desired results

Q. What is the post application care required? A • Before the material sets clean the tools, equipments & hands with soap or plain water.     • Cured material can be removed by vigorous scrubbing using sand paper or scrapper.     • Post application as a waterproofing coating, the system needs to be fully cured & then over laid with   protective coating.

Q. Any add-ons in the applications & Total system as a whole? A. No

Q. Does the product have variants? A. Yes. Dr. Fixit Crack X Powder is available in powder form & Crack X Paste Free is ready to use at a putty consistency.

Q. Are the safety precautions to be taken while using Dr. Fixit Crack X Shrinkfree? A • As with all chemical products caution should always be exercised.    • Protective clothing such as gloves and goggles should be worn (see packaging for specific instructions).    • Treat any contact to the skin or eyes with fresh water immediately.    • Should any of the products be accidentally swallowed, do not induce vomiting but call for medical assistance immediately.    • Ensure the container is available for the medical attendant to examine any relevant instructions and contents details.    • Reseal all containers after use and ensure the product is stored as instructed on the safety section of the labeling.

Q. Do we have to cure the crack with water after application? A. No. The crack-filler being non-cementitious in nature needs no curing. Although when being used in extremely hot temperatures, it is advisable to keep the crack-filled area moist or protect it from direct sunlight

Q. What if during application the paste in the container becomes stiff? A. Ideally the crack filler container should be covered once sufficient paste is taken out for application to prevent the paste from becoming stiff. Nevertheless, the paste can be slightly mixed with water to regain its original consistency if found relatively stiff.

Q. Is it recommended to mix additional acrylic/SBR polymer to enhance the performance of the product? A. No. The product has been sufficiently modified with pre-formulated polymers to deliver optimum results. As such, any further addition of polymers will not have significant effect on the product performance but will definitely build up on the cost front.

Q. Can I overcoat the repaired area with a decorative paint once crack-filling is complete? A. Yes. The product being white in appearance has considerable hiding properties which makes it compatible with over coating with a decorative paint. Although the repaired area must be leveled by sanding prior to painting

Q. Any other alternative system of crack filling that you have? A. Yes. A site batched filler mix constituting of Dr. Fixit Pidicrete URP or Dr. Fixit Pidicrete MPB may also be used as crack filler. Generally used mix is 1:3 (cement: sand) mortar with 10% addition of Dr. Fixit Pidicrete URP or Dr. Fixit Pidicrete MPB & 20 % water (both % by weight of cement). The mix can be applied at plaster consistency & ideally suited for cracks wider than 10mm.
