Need for waterproofing

Terrace waterproofing is a very critical area as it is always exposed to harsh weather conditions, climatic changes and rains. The terrace surface tends to accumulate rain water which in due course starts seeping inside the slab. Over time the deterioration of the surface will increase leading to more damage.

Healthy Tips

Following areas need to be given special attention while waterproofing

  • Pipes running over the roof or parapet wall
  • Electric wires or cables conduits
  • Rain water drain outlets with proper size and number
  • Threshold at the stair case door
  • Water tank, dish antenna, split AC unit bases
  • During surface preparation an important thing is the fitting of drain outlets

Solution

Dr. Fixit Pidicrete URP & Dr. Fixit Roofix Drain

  • Terrace surface should be dry and free from all kinds of contamination
  • All loose and de-bonded concrete should be removed and proper repairing to be carried out using polymer modified mortar admixed with Dr. Fixit Pidicrete URP
  • Dr. Fixit Roofix Drain is aligned with the drain down take pipes

Application

Dr. Fixit Roofseal & Dr. Fixit Pidicrete URP

  • Brush apply two coats of liquid waterproofing membrane Dr. Fixit Roofseal with time interval of 6-8 hrs between the coats
  • Extend the coating up to 100-150 mm on the vertical parapet walls
  • The application of each coat shall be in perpendicular direction to the subsequent coat
  • Allow Dr. Fixit Roofseal to air cure for 72 hours before conducting the water ponding test
  • Lay a 150 gsm geotextile fabric all over the coated surface of Dr. Fixit Roofseal to prevent it from getting damaged while laying the concrete screed
  • Lay concrete screed of M20 grade to provide slope (1:100) for effective and efficient drainage of water. The thickness of screed at the drain end shall be 50 mm minimum
  • The drain is fitted by carefully aligning and fitting using Dr. Fixit Pidicrete URP modified mortar. During the fitting care is taken to provide a catchment area at the drain area aligned with the slope provided in the screed. Dr. Fixit Roofseal coating is done along the fitting area as an additional coating before proceeding for final coating

Need for waterproofing

External walls are built with masonry to fill the spaces in the RCC frame containing slabs, beams and columns. This lends itself to seepage of rain from the external walls to the interiors. Cracks in plasters lead to water seepage. What is required is a high performance waterproof coating that would prevent seepage of water from the external walls to the interiors of the building.

  • All plaster cracks should be repaired with Dr. Fixit Crack-X Shrinkfree

Application

Dr. Fixit Primeseal & Dr. Fixit Raincoat

  • Apply 1 coat of Dr. Fixit Primeseal diluted with water (2 part primer :1 part water) allow to dry for 4-6 hrs
  • Apply 2 coats of Dr. Fixit Raincoat without any dilution with 6-8 hrs time intervals

Need for waterproofing

A bathroom or kitchen not waterproofed can ruin interiors, hassle residents, and incur significant repair costs in the future.

It is essential that water used in bathrooms and kitchen is drained out only through the pipes

Solution

Dr Fixit Pidicrete URP , Dr Fixit Bathseal Tape & Dr Fixit Bathseal Grout

  • Clean the surface well to make it free of dust, dirt, lataince, oil, grease etc
  • Level the surface by removing protrusions and sharp points
  • Wash well with water to clean
  • Provide 50 mm x 50 mm angle fillets using cement sand mortar mixed with Dr Fixit Pidicrete URP at all wall to floor junctions to prevent passage of water
  • Seal all grooves / trenches for pipes with cement sand mortar modified with Dr Fixit Pidicrete URP
  • Wrap the portion of pipes that are inserted through the walls and floors with Dr Fixit Bathseal Tape – a twin side adhesive tape
  • Fill the gaps around these pipe inserts with Dr Fixit Bathseal Grout

Application

Dr. Fixit Bathseal WPC

  • Apply a brush coat of Dr. Fixit Bathseal WPC all over in the sunken portion and up to the finished floor level and extending on the wall in shower splash zone area -180mm x 150mm (ht x width)
  • While the first coat is still wet fix glass fibre mesh on the angle fillets extending about 15-20 mm on wall and ground. Allow the first coat to dry for about 6-8 hrs
    • Apply 2nd coat of Dr. Fixit Bathseal WPC all over and allow drying for 6-8 hrs
    • Use Roff NSA as recommended for mixing and application to fix tiles
    • Use Roff RTM Epoxy Tile Grout to fill all tile joints to ensure completely leakfree tiling for flooring and wall
    • Finally use Dr Fixit Bathseal Sealant – acrylic sealant - to seal all gaps around all sanitary fixtures, wash basin, bathtub, windows etc

Need for waterproofing

The foundation is the key to a strong sustainable structure. Due to the capillary movement of water, the water rises from the earth to the plinth. As it passes through the foundation it rises higher and reaches the wall.

Healthy Tips

To prevent the water from the reaching the wall a DPC is laid at the plinth level

Solution

  • Clean the surface well to make it free of dust, dirt, laitance, oil, grease etc
  • Level the surface by removing protrusions and sharp point and wash well with water to clean

Application

Dr. Fixit Solyseal

  • Brush apply 2 coats of Dr. Fixit Solyseal all over the plinth beam with a time span of 6-8 hours between coats
  • Allow it to dry for 24 hours before continuing construction

Need for waterproofing

Seepage and leakage from overhead and underground tanks spoils the décor, helps growth of algae and fungus and leads to weakening of the structure. Such areas hence need to be waterproofed but also at the same time safe for potable water.

Solution

Dr. Fixit Pidicrete URP & Dr. Fixit Fastflex

  • Surface to be treated should be clean and free from dirt, oil and other loose material
  • concrete or masonry surfaces should be fully cured prior to application
  • All surface cracks, undulations and voids must be repaired appropriately before application
  • Properly grout all construction joints using polymer modified mortar using Dr. Fixit Pidicrete URP
  • Surface to be treated with Dr. Fixit Fastflex must be in saturated surface dry condition prior to application

Application

Dr. Fixit Fastflex

  • Apply Dr. Fixit Fastflex by brush
  • Allow the 1st coat to dry completely for 6 – 8 hrs before applying the 2nd coat
  • Apply the 2nd coat in perpendicular direction to the 1st coat and sprinkle coarse sand over it while it is still wet
  • Plaster the inner surface after 24 hours using Dr. Pidiproof LW+ and cure completely for 7 days prior to filling with water
